Yesterday was another GMC (God-made-coincidence, we just learned that from Beth!). Ever since the storm in Freeport, IL, we've been behind mileage wise. With strong headwinds, more rolling hills than we've expected, and thunderstorms, it's been draining. We were still behind yesterday when we reached Amboy, IL. We were stopped at an intersection while Chaz fixed his saddlebags, when two cyclists crossed the street in front of us. They pulled over and we started talking. Before we knew it, Beth offered to host us for the night and get out of the impending storm. We still had two more hours of biking before the storm hit, and 70 miles to go for the night. Yet we are learning to humble ourselves and take help when it is offered. So we turned around and went to Beth's house and had a incredulous restful evening with her and her family. With beds and showers and pizza (and a massage chair!), it was exactly what we needed. It was such an incredible blessing - for us and for them.  And our faith brought us together. It's hard to explain how amazing God's provisions are and how they come when we least expect it. Now, Beth and her friend Lisa are giving us a ride east to Kankakee, IL to set us back on track - and they have a bike rack that fits 4 bikes!! From donations, to meals, to showers, to words of encouragement we have been blessed by those around us. And we are blessing those even when we don't realize it.

Also, Beth, Lisa and some more friends are biking the RAGBRAI, a bike ride across Iowa in the end of July. Our trip will be finished by then, so you can continue reading by checking out their blog!

  1. GMC--I'll have to remember that, too! It is good to follow the "uphills and downhills" of your adventures from my chair in Houghton. God in it all and "everything belongs". Praying for safety and more GMCs.

    God's peace,
    Jeanie
